META TAGS
  1. What is META TAGS and what is it for?
    <meta> tag is metadata about the HTML page. Metadata is a data about data. Metadata is not displayed on the page, but it's read by the machine (browsers, search engines, or other web services. Usually it is used to specify page title, page description, keywords, author of the page, last page modified, etc.
     
  2. How can I see meta tags on a website?
    Right click and select View Source on the page. At the top section, you will usually see <meta> tags of the page.
     
  3. Is it important to write meta tags on my page?
    Yes. It is important because the SEARCH ENGINES READ THEM. They read them in order to compare keywords and description with the content of the page.
     
  4. Example of META TAGS.
    Write Meta tags code below between <HEAD> and </HEAD> before the <BODY> tag.

  5. What is the golden rule of writing meta tags?
    There are no golden rule. You can write as many as you want as long as it is related to the contents of the page. If there is no relation to the content of the page, some search engines may consider your page a SPAM.
    For us, we usually used this guidance (using our common sense and trial and errors):
    • <title> tags should contain 60-80 characters.
    • <meta name="description"> tags should contain 160 characters.
    • <meta name="keywords"> tags should contain 10-12 phrases of words.
